What is STEM Education at Norwood Elementary?

When most people hear the word STEM, they think of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
At Norwood Elementary, STEM is so much more.

As a STEM-designated school, Norwood Elementary focuses on the skills and behaviors students need to thrive in the 21st-century world. While our students engage in hands-on STEM learning every day, we are intentionally developing what matters most—the 4 C’s: Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.

At Norwood, every teacher is a STEM teacher and every classroom is a place of discovery. From kindergarten through fifth grade, students are encouraged to ask questions, solve meaningful problems, work together, and think creatively. Learning doesn’t stop at worksheets—our students design, build, test, revise, and explain their thinking in ways that mirror real-world experiences.

True STEM education means making strong connections between classroom learning and the world beyond our walls. Through project-based learning, problem-solving challenges, and community connections, our students learn how to tackle questions that don’t have just one right answer—and gain the confidence to share their ideas.

At Norwood Elementary, STEM isn’t just a subject—it’s how we learn, how we think, and how we prepare students for college, career, and life success.

This is where curiosity grows, creativity shines, and future innovators begin.
