Ms. Cox is the winner of the Clinton Education Foundation Grant

The music department recently  won a Health and Wellness grant through the Clinton Educational Foundation. We received funds for almost $1,000 to purchase seven Tubano drums.

The addition of these drums gives us almost a complete classroom set!

The title of my project was: DRUM = Discipline, Respect and Unity through Music

Drum circles can be extremely healing!  In a world that is connected through technology and social media, we are very disconnected with one another and even ourselves. It has been proven that drum circles can help release emotional trauma, induce relaxation, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, accelerate physical healing and boost the immune system. It gives participants a feeling of mindfulness, acceptance and non judgment that has many social, physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological benefits.

Therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental and spiritual health.

I can't wait for our students to play the new drums!
